Tony is an expert on so many different things, but above all, mexican food. He brought us to an amazing place for breakfast, showed us all around an awesome marketplace, explaining all the ingredients that aren't indigenous to the US, and walked us through cooking a complex mole. We enjoyed spending time with him, and him with us. I hope to take another tour with Tony in the future.

A must if you enjoy culinary & culture! A group of us decided to take Tony’s market tour & cooking class, we were blown away! We decided to take this tour early on in our trip so that we can return to the market later on with more knowledge. Tony explains everything with so much detail and is great at answering questions! You get 2 meals out of the day, breakfast at a great little restaurant and then a multi-course lunch you prepare together after shopping at the market. His assistant Ruby is also super sweet! Thank you for the great mezcal and good times Tony!

We had a great day learning how to cook mole verde, ceviche, guacamole, and a couple salsas. In the market Tony taught us a lot about local foods and spices - it was clear he knew what he was talking about. When we got to the kitchen Tony taught us everything we needed to know and answered all the questions we had as they came up. He was a great teacher and we learned a lot!

I took the more popular 'market tour and cooking class' yesterday. We met at 8am in the market, then Tony took us to a wonderful restaurant for breakfast across the street where we met his assistant Ruby. A really lovely girl from a neighbouring town that also spent the day with us. We had a great view of the women working behind the counter, he explained every item on the menu and how it was prepared. Breakfast was delicious (and included in the cost of the class). We then started to shop for our ingredients at the market, he pointed out and named almost everything you see in there, lots of info to absorb but it was so interesting. After shopping we went back to his place in Bococho. He has a very clean and organized kitchen, comfortable seating and played fun Mexican tunes. We wasted no time, Tony got us all chopping and stirring and creating and tasting. He is such an easy going, talkative guy who made us laugh throughout the day. He offered cold beer and the best mezcal I've ever tried. We created several dishes, ate them all together and everything was delicious.Definitely take this class if you are the least bit interested in Mexican food. This was a highlight of my Puerto Escondido trip. Take it early in your trip too so you can go back to the market and shop/cook with confidence with these new recipes.

I took the Market Tour and Cooking Class yesterday. I had an awesome day, I would totally recommend it to anyone. Tony first took us for breakfast in a local restaurant. He started talking about the food, how it's made and where it's from, and also made great recommendations on the menu. The meal was covered by Tony. We then headed back to the market, stopping along the way at different stands to buy some food for the cooking class. Tony gave us a lot of information on different ingredients, fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs and chiles. We then did the market tour. Again getting a lot of information on Mexican food, its origins and history. Tony bought all the ingredients that were needed for the cooking class. We then went to his house to start cooking. Very interactive class, where Tony gave us tips and tricks on cutting, cooking and preparing the meals. We got to cook a lot of different things and learned a lot of the science of cooking. The day finished with a great meal that we all prepared together, some nieve and mezcal.I had a great day and can only think of positive things about this experience. Don't hesitate and take the class!
