Freeride Kiting

Dan’s love if kiteboarding shows through his instructions and more than anything he is a great guy who is fun to hang out with! He has always supported me with great gear when I need it and has a great knowledge of gear especially when it comes to foil setups and board combos!

I’ve been kiting for 20 years. Been dealing with dan for about a year now. He is exceptionally knowledgeable about kiting and a great guy to do business with. Many other people sell equipment and teach but lack the in-depth technical know-how of the gear. I’ve bought stuff from him because I shop around for the best price and Dan usually has it. I’m also very impressed on how he runs his kite school and his teaching methods,,,,his attention to detail and dedicated one on one teaching style with radio helmets Is definitely the best way.

I really appreciate Dan’s expert knowledge and advice on new gear like foil boards, recommendations on kiting at various sites from Alaska, to Baja to Hood River including local conditions, kite sizes to bring, and other local knowledge. Lots of Stoke too! Dan has shared expertise generously to tons of folks in the kite community!

Went out with Dan several times on the Turnagain Arm in Alaska this summer. He is very patient and goes out of his way to get folks out on the water. Keep in mind the conditions on the Arm are unpredictable, so if you want to learn you'll need to set aside enough time for everything (tides, wind, work schedules) to line up right. The flip side is, if you can kite here you can probably kite anywhere, and there is a tight-knit kiting community that is an awesome resource for those new to the area. No other kiting spot like it.

Got my independent rider from Freeride kite instructor Dan Young. He drilled safety, self rescue and kite control in a fun but serious manner. He really cares about his students and safety above all else. Because of this I have been able to truly become an independent confident rider. I have now kitted in all conditions and in some super remote challenging places in Alaska. Plus a half dozen other states and Mexico. If you want to get a strong base or work on specific techniques Freeride in my opinion is the school of choice. The kite gear is exceptional and from snow kitting to foil boarding, they have the experience to get you to the next level

Dan at Freeride Kiting is a great guy who really cares a lot about making sure his students have the right conditions and right gear to have a good time on the water. Had an AWESOME experience with Dan at Freeride Kiting. I had about 30 hours on the water through numerous years (~IKO 3) and Dan was easy to communicate with, offered a free skills assessment and a brief refresher course that allowed me to feel extremely comfortable out on the water again (and had me kiting in no time). I relearned valuable skills that improved my confidence and allowed me to advance quickly.Dan is very easy going but will not compromise when it comes to safety – which was important to me. His school has great equipment, he is an excellent coach/mentor, very reasonable prices and chooses spots that are away from high traffic. I cannot speak more highly of Dan. He MADE my La Ventana experience and I can’t wait to get back out there again. Thank you very much Dan!
